The ITS specialist will organize and co-ordinate activities related to the development of ITS components for the Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit System. The ITS specialist will also monitor and ensure the ongoing functioning of all ITS components of the BRT operations (above and below ground).

Key Responsibilities

The major areas of responsibility for the ITS Specialist includes:

  • Ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for the BRT and associated services so that it continues to function as per the original technical specifications.
  • Working closely with other TransPeshawar members as well as other GoKP entities such as KPUMA, TMTD and Traffic Police to facilitate a safe and responsive environment for passengers, general public, contractor staff and staff of TransPeshawar.
  • Preparation and oversight of proactive maintenance and servicing schedules for the ITS components.
  • Other responsibilities as are requested from time to time by the General Manager Planning and Construction.

 

Key Tasks
  • Oversee the delivery and maintenance of all ITS components and related communications (CCTV, audio, vehicle tracking) systems.
  • Provide senior management with the relevant expert technical advice on matters relating to ongoing functioning, intermittent failures, design and implementation of upgrades or replacements as necessary.
  • Assess market bids for future procurement of ITS components as the public transport system expands and/or as additional ITS and security related matters need to be incorporated into the system.
  • Prepare annual maintenance budget for senior management approval.
  • For ITS procurement, develop and/or supervises design, support and ITS integration tasks with the current operation of the system so that delays/interruptions to services are avoided/minimised.
  • Provides support for other ITS activities as required. This may require site supervision of one or more contractors.
  • Research and development into developing ITS technologies for future consideration. This will include internal fleet safety enhancement. Including: forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), lane change warning (LCW), and curve speed warning (CSW) systems.
  • Perform other such duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Position Requirements
  1. ATTAINMENTS

Qualification

Minimum 16 Years degree in ITS, Engineering, Computer Science, Information System, Transport Planning, Telecom, Electronics or related field from a recognized university. Foreign qualification will be considered an added advantage.

 

Preferable – Master degree in ITS, Engineering, Computer Science, Information System, Transport Planning, Telecom, Electronics or related field from a recognized university. Foreign Qualification will be considered an added advantage.

 

Specialized Training – System management information, automated vehicles and policy, connected vehicle program, performance measure and management, traffic management, system engineering for signal system, telecommunications and networking, traveller information system, safety and mobility, or any other skills considered relevant for the position.

Active affiliations –  membership of recognised Industry or Professional Organisations.

 

EXPERIENCE

At least 8 years of post-qualification relevant experience including 2 years in intelligent transportation systems design, undertaking/overseeing maintenance and operations. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role will be considered an advantage.  Relevant International work experience will be considered an added advantage.

 

  1. CORE COMPETENCIES
  • A strong understanding of ITS planning, design, integration, operation and maintenance processes and needs.
  • A strong understanding of ITS systems covering the following items:
  • Vehicle monitoring systems
  • Traffic monitoring systems – including the functioning of a BRT monitoring control room.
  • CCTV
  • Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
  • Short range communication devices (DSRC)
  • Vehicle and incident detection technologies
  • Wireless and fibre optic communication system
  • Ability to go on site to personally inspect ITS system components.
  • Mature and co-operative negotiation skills with customers, sub-contractors and team members.
  • Well-presented and business-like.

 

  1. CIRCUMSTANCES
  • Fluency in English and Urdu. Pashto will be considered an added advantage.
  • Good health, allow to work long and irregular hours (when required).
  • Age up to 50 years on closing date of applications
