CEO Message

The Peshawar BRT system stands out as the first of its kind in Pakistan, representing the third Generation of Bus Rapid Transit. With a fleet of 244 environment-friendly diesel-hybrid buses, the system operates on 18 routes, serving over 300,000 passengers daily, of which 30% are women. This system serves as a lifeline for the residents of Peshawar in their daily lives, especially for vulnerable segments such as those living below the poverty line, women, children, and people with disabilities. Moreover, the Peshawar BRT offers unique features like a bicycle-sharing system for last-mile connectivity and a user-friendly mobile app that enables passengers to plan their journeys and track real-time bus locations while facilitating fare payments.
Owing to its unique, state-of-the-art features and subsequent robust operations, the system and service has received an overwhelming response from the general public. Resultantly, Zu Peshawar has garnered international recognition for its high-quality services, inclusivity, and user-friendliness. To date, the system has received five international awards, including the Gold Standard BRT Award from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), honourable mention in the Sustainable Transport Award (STA) from ITDP (twice in 2022 and 2024), the Best Smart Ticketing Program Award from Transport Ticketing Global, and being one of the five finalists in the prestigious Prize for Cities Award by World Resources Institute.
