OVERALL ROLE

The Gender & Environment Officer will be responsible to ensure gender integration, equal opportunity and environmental sustainability is effectively considered in BRT Project and TransPeshawar. He/ She will develop methodologies in a manner that is culturally sensitive and results-oriented. He or She will also work with all stakeholders to ensure that gender and environmental aspects are applied to the overall operations and activities, as well as the organizational structure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES;

The major areas of responsibility for the Gender & Environment Officer includes:

  • Integrate gender-responsive and socially inclusive approaches into transport planning, operations, and infrastructure design.
  • Conduct gender and social impact assessments related to public transport services and facilities.
  • Promote safe, accessible, and affordable mobility for women, elderly, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Develop and implement Gender Action Plans (GAPs) and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Support initiatives addressing harassment prevention, passenger safety, and grievance redress mechanisms.
  • Conduct awareness sessions and trainings on gender sensitivity and inclusion for staff, operators, and contractors.
  • Support implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and environmental safeguards in BRT operations.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations, including emissions control, waste management, and noise mitigation.
  • Promote climate-resilient and low-carbon transport solutions, including energy efficiency and green practices.
  • Assist in environmental audits, inspections, and reporting to regulatory bodies and relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate with contractors and operators to ensure environmental compliance at depots, stations, and corridors.
  • Collect, analyse, and report gender-disaggregated and environmental data.
  • Support compliance with national environmental laws, donor safeguard policies, and organizational ESG commitments.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management, donors, and regulatory authorities. Maintain documentation related to social and environmental safeguards.
  • Liaise with government departments, NGOs, community groups, and development partners on gender and environmental issues.
  • Support community consultations and public awareness campaigns related to mobility, environment, and inclusion.
  • Any other task relevant to the position and as per requirement.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. ATTAINMENTS

QUALIFICATION

At least 16 Years of Education in Social Sciences, Gender and Development or Women Study, Management or related field. Foreign qualification will be considered an added advantage.

Specialized Training – Gender Awareness/Sensitization, Community Engagement, Public Relations, Strategies Development or any other skills considered relevant for the position.

Active affiliations –  Membership of Recognised Industry or Professional Organisations.

EXPERIENCE

At least 03 years of post-qualification relevant experience including a minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role is highly desirable.

  • CIRCUMSTANCES
  • Fluency in English and Urdu. Pashto will be considered an added advantage.
  • Good health, allow to work long and irregular hours (when required).
  • Age up to 42 years on the closing date of applications.
